YUBA CITY, CA (YSBC) – The 60th year that a Holiday tournament has been played atYuba City that was later renamed to the famed coach who won 192 career wins at Yuba City.

Yuba City
The tournament hosts dropped the first two games of their tournament to dynamic programs in Marysville and Justin Garza of Fresno.
Yuba City trailed by six at the half in the opener against Marysville before the Indians pulled away with a sizable margin of victory.
The Honkers had a better offensive showing in the second night as they battled with Garza in their second game of the tournament.
Garza took a double-digit lead in the third quarter and was able to hold on for the win despite a big fourth quarter from Yuba City, which had three Honkers’ with double-digit points in the loss.
Yuba City won their final game against Lincoln by 10. The Honkers had five players in double figures and shot 41% from the three-point line.

River Valley
The River Valley Falcons left the tournament with a 3-10 record after they went 1-2 in the tournament, but their record is deceiving as they will be in a lot of Foothill Valley League games as they start within the next couple of weeks.
River Valley dropped their first game to Garza by 13, but they trailed by seven half way through the fourth before the Guardians held on for the win.
The Falcons bounced back on the second night of the tournament as they held Lincoln to single-digit points in three of the four quarters as they picked up their third win of the year 60-44 over the Fighting Zebras.
River Valley senior guard Sevak Mundi led the way with 14 points in the win against Lincoln.
The Falcons were beaten by Marysville in the tournament finale as the Indians proved they are clearly one of the top boys’ squads in the area.

Marysville
The Marysville Indians motto this year is “Marysville versus Everybody,” and they displayed it against the two local squads they played in the Mel Good tournament.
Marysville opened the tournament with a big victory over Yuba City where the Indians took over the second half and built their big margin on the way to their win.
Marysville junior Steven Martin and senior Jordan Witt led the Indians in scoring as they combined for 101 total points on the weekend between the two of them.
Marysville fell to Casa Roble as they dropped their third game of the season in a 74-61 loss to the Rams last Friday.
Martin went off against River Valley as he scored a game-high 34 points in the victory by 18.
Despite not having many returners on from the 2024-25 roster, the Indians are gelling well and ended 2025 with a 6-3 record.
Marysville will be a top contender to win its fourth Pioneer Valley League title in the last five seasons as they open league play on January 7 versus Mira Loma.
